Monkey Type
Chamonix
Type Foundry
Monkey Type is a type foundry based in Chamonix, France, co-founded by Mitch Paone and Meg Donohoe. Specializing in both custom and retail typefaces, Monkey Type brings a contemporary edge to branding and visual identity through a unique blend of conceptual rigor and technical finesse. Their work has been featured in high-profile projects for clients including Peloton Interactive, Diesel, and The New York Times Magazine.
Beyond design, Monkey Type supports animal welfare by donating a portion of its profits to sanctuaries and shelters — some of which, fittingly, care for monkeys.
Monkey Type operates in close synergy with DIA Studio — a motion – driven creative agency also founded by Mitch and Meg, with offices in New York City and Chamonix. DIA developed a new approach to designing identity systems where motion is foundational and creative tools always accompany brand guidelines. Their generative tools and autonomous design systems empower internal teams and simplify oversight.
Outside of the foundry and client work, they are deeply engaged in design education — embedding DIA’s innovative creative process into academic programs with a strong emphasis on motion and generative tools in graphic design. In addition to teaching, they lead workshops that bring these cutting-edge methodologies directly to emerging designers and industry professionals.
