Emma Thyssen is an independent illustrator and graphic designer of children’s books, family trails, travel/restaurant guides, childrenswear and audiobooks.
In 2012 she won the award “Best graphic designed books” in the category “Best children’s book” with Hart. In the mean time Hart has been translated into Hungarian and her second picture book Schaap zoekt schoen has already been translated into Chinese, French and Danish. They also received the 2nd prize from the Flanders’ Children and Youth Jury.
The successive books Schaap zoekt groen and Schaap zoekt poen have found their way tot he bookstores too.
In cooperation with Het Geluidshuis the book series on Kabouter Korsakov was realised. These picture/ audio/ bedtime books are meant for children from 4 years.
Other popular children’s books are Nelsons Acrobatenboek, Nelsons Yogaboek, Nelsons Dansboek, Nelsons Ninjaboek, Meneer Blobvis zoekt een liefje, and Pipi.
Together with her boyfriend, Dries Otten, she designs family trails for various heritage sites such as the trail in the castle of Horst and in the castle of Beauvoorde.
Two times a year Emma also designes a collection of play clothes for children with the name Rainbow City Warriors for the company JBC.
In 2017 the 1st picture book that she herself both wrote and illustrated was published. Billie zoekt zijn lievelingsdingen is a book you’re looking for hot stuff such as Michael Jackson, Nirvana, Mauro. A book about having 4 arms and drinking milk on the moon, about pets called “Drake” and about painting hamsters in fluorescent yellow.
Loves Din & Tibere, Ween, green, graphite, illustrating, Bangkok, found rabbits, Manon de Source, Thursdays, curry sauce, Dries and Flof, old mini bikes and racing bikes, Posca crayons, the colour red in combination with the colour pink, Ween and Bon Iver.
